Risk vs. Cause – Dr. Herbert Post on Autism Speak’s “Got Questions” Blog April 18, 2012

Entitled “What’s the difference between something causing autism versus increasing risk for autism?” Dr. Herbert blogs about how autism is caused and proposes a model of Total Load where the cumulative sum of gene and environment impacts makes our biology more clumsy which can tip over into chronic conditions.  The “Total Load” of mothers with diabetes or obesity may be how the risk of their having a child with autism is increased.
